Sourdough Biscuits

I have the best recipe to add to your breakfast! They can even be enjoyed with dinner or enjoy them as an afternoon snack with some delicious homemade jelly or pumpkin butter!

These buttery biscuits have the perfect crunchy outside and fluffy inside. And your probably have all the ingredients you need!

-Yields about 12 biscuits depending on the way you cut them.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups of all purpose flour
  • 1 stick of butter(unsalted, but salted will work too, just decrease salt you add)
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ⅓ cup of milk
  • 1 cup of sourdough discard

Place flour, baking powder, and salt into a large mixing bowl. Using a cheese grater, grate your butter over the flour mixture. Mix with a dough whisk, or a fork will do, and incorporate butter into the flour. It will be crumbly, which is what you want. This is the part that gives the buttery goodness throughout!

In a small bowl mix sourdough discard and milk until combined.

Next pour the milk mixture over the four and combine. Mix just until it forms a dough ball. If it’s too sticky, add a little flour. If it’s not coming together, you may need to add a little milk 1 tbsp at a time.

Finally,  flour your surface and press dough out to about ½ inch thick. Be careful not to over work it; they won’t come out as fluffy if you knead it or work with it too much. Cut dough, using a biscuit cutter, or just a glass, and place into a floured cast iron skillet or pan.

Bake at 425 for 15-20 until the tops are golden brown.

*If you don’t have any sourdough starter, you can still make homemade biscuits!

Just increase the milk to 1 cup. The dough will be a little softer, but they won’t disappoint!
